The Framework
A neuroscience-based, field-tested framework for preventing violence before it occurs. LPS is the intellectual foundation of everything MRSG builds — from direct intervention to the Cerebral Command Network.
What Is LPS?
Most violence prevention frameworks are reactive — they respond after harm has occurred. The Life Preservation Systems™ framework is built on a different premise: that violence is predictable, that the warning signs are readable, and that trained, trusted responders can intervene before the point of no return.
LPS draws on neuroscience research on threat response, behavioral psychology, and over a decade of direct field experience in Milwaukee's highest-risk environments. It is not a theory — it is an operational system with documented components, training protocols, and measurable outcomes.
Core Model
The sequential intervention model at the heart of LPS — five stages that guide every Preservationist engagement.
Identify behavioral, environmental, and social indicators that signal elevated risk before a situation escalates. Early recognition is the foundation of every intervention.
Establish authentic connection with the individual. Trust is the prerequisite for influence. Without relationship, intervention fails.
Shift the trajectory of the individual away from violence through targeted engagement, alternative framing, and immediate de-escalation.
Connect the individual to appropriate resources, services, and support systems that address the root causes driving their risk.
Maintain ongoing engagement to prevent regression. Life preservation is not a single event — it is a sustained relationship over time.
Time-Based Protocols
The critical first 90 seconds of any high-risk encounter. Responder behavior in this window determines whether the situation escalates or de-escalates. LPS trains Preservationists to control this window through tone, posture, and language.
The extended window in which the trajectory of an encounter is set. If the 90-second window is managed correctly, the 5-minute window allows for deeper engagement and redirection. Failure in this window typically results in escalation.
Every individual engaged by a Preservationist receives a follow-up contact within 48 hours. This commitment signals sustained investment and prevents the individual from feeling abandoned after initial contact.
Operating Principles
No intervention proceeds without a baseline safety assessment for the responder, the individual, and bystanders.
Engagement must be genuine. Scripted or performative responses are detected and rejected by high-risk individuals.
Every commitment made during an intervention must be honored. Broken promises destroy trust and increase risk.
Preservationists are trained to recognize when a situation is beyond their capacity and when to escalate to emergency services.
Communication Protocol
Active, non-judgmental listening that signals respect and builds rapport.
Acknowledge the emotional reality of the individual without endorsing harmful behavior.
Use open-ended questions to understand the individual's perspective and needs.
Reflect back what you've heard to confirm understanding and demonstrate attention.
Consolidate the conversation into a clear, shared understanding before moving to action.
MRSG delivers LPS training, consulting, and technology integration for cities, municipalities, and CVI organizations.
