Program Mission
WORTH IT is not a traditional violence prevention program. It is a direct economic and life-skills investment in the individuals most likely to be involved in gun violence — either as perpetrators or victims. By compensating participants for their time and engagement, WORTH IT removes the economic barrier that keeps high-risk individuals from participating in intervention programs.
The program is built on a simple but radical premise: if we want people to choose a different path, we have to make that path economically viable. A minimum of $20/hr is not charity — it is a strategic investment in public safety with a measurable return.
"We are not asking people to change for free. We are paying them to invest in their own lives — because that investment pays dividends for the entire city."
— Shawn Moore Sr., Founder, MRSG
Program Design
Direct engagement with active gun carriers and individuals identified as being on a violence trajectory through MRSG's Life Preservation Systems™ risk assessment model.
Participants receive a minimum of $20/hr for engagement in program activities — recognizing their time, effort, and the real economic barriers that contribute to violence risk.
Structured programming in employment readiness, financial literacy, conflict resolution, and long-term life planning — building the capacity for sustained change.
Each participant is assigned a dedicated Preservationist who provides continuous support, accountability, and connection to resources throughout the program.
All programming is delivered through a trauma-informed lens, acknowledging the role of adverse childhood experiences and chronic stress in violence risk.
Structured pathways for participants to transition from program engagement to stable employment, housing, and community connection.
